We’re trying to release a professional quality freeware Visual Novel! Please help us reach this goal! :)

About Spiral Destiny

Spiral Destiny (SD) is visual novel project (powered by Ren’Py) first started as a NaNoRenO 2012 project – an event where aspiring game makers gather together attempting to make a visual novel from scratch in the short time frame of a month. At the end of NaNoRenO, the current demo version of SD was released - Download demo here.

The story of SD takes place in AU Bangkok, sometime in the future. Ratana and her friends are shopping at a shopping complex when an earthquake and tsunami hits. The building is flooding and falling apart. Ratana and friends are trapped inside the building waiting for rescue, but with such a large scaled tsunami, they aren’t the only ones needing help…

It is told from the perspective of two victims trapped inside the building – Ratana, a young pessimistic college girl; and Satria, an optismitic elective medical student on international placement.

Why Set up Indiegogo Campaign?

After SD demo is released, we received many constructive feedback. We noticed a lot of the players have very high expectation of us, and compares SD with other top-notch visual novels. Motivated by all these, we want to make SD even better – and to meet up with everyone’s expectation.

We aim to make SD a free cross platform (PC, Android, iOS) release – but this will not be easy. We have managed to release the current demo with our own ability, but this is where we would need help.

We work among ourselves to produce a bulk of the game assets to reduce the cost of production. However, there are some limitations to what we are able to produce.

Some of the things you can expect to see in SD;

BG

High quality background images

Being a crisis survival story, SD requires more complicated backgrounds. These backgrounds take up majority of the budget for the game – but they definitely do miracles to the game!

More event CGs

We have initially planned for only 6 event CGs in the whole game – but we realised players expect, and would love, to have more CGs! We thought it would be great to have more CGs as well – what’s a visual novel without all the pretty visuals? :)

Complete OST

The OST for the demo version is available here. They are custom composed for SD to fit into every scene, to give the players a closer experience and feel of the game atmosphere.

Theme Songs (With Vocal)

As with the OST, SD will have have custom opening and closing themes. You have have a listen to the current version of the closing theme here. It is not finalised and have Miku’s voice as a ‘place holder’.

(Optional) Fully Voice-acted Characters

All the characters will be fully voiced by professional voice actors. We understand that not everyone enjoy voice acting in a visual novel, so there will be an option to turn the function off!

Engaging and Professional Story Telling

We realise one of the main flaws of the demo is a mediocre (at best) writing – and we aim to be able to improve and make sure the writing for the final release in on par with professional stories. After all, this is still a novel.

Others

SD will also features most functions expected in visual novels, such as unlockable CG and music gallery, options to set text speed to own’s preference, save and load games, as well as choices throughout the story which will lead to different endings.

There are some minor details such as blinking sprites and mini in-game clocks (making it easier to keep track as in-game time as the story alternates between two point of views).

Some fund will also go into making hard copies of the game.

What Do You Get?

We are very, very grateful to receive any aid to be able to realise our dream of releasing a freeware professional quality visual novel. Therefore, we planned out some ‘reward’ packages to show our appreciation. We want to make them as special and interesting as possible, and came up with the current ‘packages’. We’re more than happy to listen to your feedback and desing more ‘packages’!

Should we be able to raise more than enough fund for this project, the money will go into funding other visual novel or indie game projects.
