Mawaru Penguindrum Ep. 22-24

Ladies and gentlemen, we’ve arrived at the last stop. Did you have a wild ride? I know I did. It’s not so much of roller coaster ride or a Ferris wheel ride or a train ride. I don’t how to describe it. Maybe it’s like one of those tunnel rides where you get shocking images once in a while. Oh wait. It’s Destiny Express.

After the truth was revealed in 21st episode, what’s left for Penguindrum to do is to piece together the puzzles they’ve created throughout the series. The rest of the episodes were sad. First, Masako was chasing fruitlessly after Kanba, begging for him to stop his crimes. In the end, she chose to sacrifice herself in order to protect his beloved twin brother. And there’s Himari who kept trying to mend the broken condition of her family. She’s even willing to give up her life to see Kanba good again.

Sanethoshi rose up to play the absolute villain. Not that is anything new. He was already the bad guy since day one. And the reason he’s around and what relationship he has with Momoka was also revealed. They’re like oil and water, always fighting one another. They had been doing that over 16 years. Amazing! Actually, I’m not sure if I’m amazed that they’ve been fighting for 16 years or that the result of their actions have been causing pain to others for 16 years.

Don’t mind that. The most important happened and boy, am I glad it did – ALL puzzles were answered. Where did the penguin hats come from. Who is Sanetoshi. Where is Momoka.  WHAT IS THE PENGUINDRUM!! These are all finally answered. I shouldn’t be surprised that the most important answer was only revealed at the final minutes of the series. The penguindrum, guys and girls, is well this (check the screen capture below).

There isn’t much to do for these three episodes except just absorbing all the information. There weren’t any mind games anymore. Simply just pouring out information one episode after another. I enjoy that. All the characters seem to have found their place, including the notorious Yuri and Tabuki. What breaks my heart is that the Takakura brothers are no longer with us. Despite all that Kanba did, I like the guy. Despite all the sillyness Shoma did, I like the guy. They have worked so hard for happiness. The strong bond they share is something I adore. In all the difficulties they’re enduring, they were never that far away from each other in thoughts.

In the end though, the Takakura brothers are forgotten heroes. This breaks my heart even more.

Let’s share the fruit of fate.

P.S I’m not sure if I should say this, but do they have one of cutest bombs on earth! Bear bombs. Huh.
