Mashiro went gothic.

This dress I made with some gothic-ness in my mind but it turns out not to be that gothic.

But I’m glad it still look cute on Mashiro.

Haru Bazaar Mar 2011 + *SCAPE

Posted: 12 Mar 2011 08:34 AM PST

On 12 Mar 2011, Haru at *SCAPE “Social Retailing Project” in Singapore’s city area hosted a new edition of Haru Bazaar due to popular demand. This event is a cosplay heavy event, but also has some figma and dollfie displays and clothes-making displays amongst other things. I thought I’d also use it as an excuse to document some of the facilities in the place (as much as I could given that many of these are now privately held and not open to non-users anymore)

Outside *SCAPE, approaching from Orchard Cineleisure

This is the *SCAPE area’s main shopping complex, seen as approaching from Orchard Cineleisure. behind me as I tookthis photo was several F&B mini outlets ^^;

*SCAPE is normally a very busy place on weekends. On the weekend Haru Bazaar Mar 2011 was held, it was especially busy: there were two flea markets, a breakdancing competition and a environmentally-themed arts contest. The devil finds work for idle hands, and we clearly despise the devil enough in here to go overboard with the events? ^^;

The first cosplayer I met as I walked in half an hour late. As it turns out, the event would not get roaring till about 3pm or so due to school and work committments (on a Saturday? INESCROYABLE) I neglected to ask her name!(ah) but she was one of the organisers of the Bazaar and tried to help me find Dollfie owners in the event (as it turns out, there weren’t any due to the poor lighting/heat in the event hall.

This is one of the more unusual displays at the event: a gunpla modeler who also brought his other collectibles… like themed coffee and cola cans (Kamen Rider FTW!), the full range of Ragnarok Online professions and…

POOORIIIINIGS!!! #ROFlashbacksEnsue xD

Extremely low poly, chibified, pepakura Vocaloids – I asked, but sadly, he didn’t have a Hatsune Chibi…

Oh wait – FIXED xD

I had heard that the facilities at *SCAPE were very large, but it didn’t start occuring to me how much space had been set aside in the city for Singapore teens till I saw this sign by the lifts during a lull…

Welcome to my “More Damn Fool Me” moment – I heard there was a second flea market besides the one near the entrance I’d used going into the center… and I stumbled on this flea market in the basement, held regularly (by very different organisers)

… a radio station on the third floor O_o (actually, it makes sense: 98.7FM is a popular young generation radio station so why not put it slap bang in the middle of a setup dedicated to engaging teens?)

What do these four people have in common? Damned if I know xD But it’s tastefully done graffiti, and many blank surfaces in the center’s outside have been carpeted with other tastefully done graffiti murals.

This is Chat Space – basically a space that is lightly moderated for teen use, but is otherwise open to teens for all sorts of things ranging from idle chatter, simple drinks, light internet use and boardgames. This is the sort of place your mother wouldn’t mind you hanging out in in your idle time with friends… if you remember to finish your schoolwork and come home for dinner.

Not relevant to *SCAPE, but while I was looking on the upperfloor, I came across a small group of resin BJD owners and… OMG, Centaur O_o

By 5pm I had gotten terribly hungry that I couldn’t stand the thought of not eating even though the event ended at 6pm, so I found a Taiwanese fast food restaurant and had herbal chicken noodle (mee sua)…

And a certain Atiyaah musume was so thirsty, she had to have a watermelon shake too!

Chichi: okay, I’ll have a sip of that drink….

Atiyaah: Touch this tub of happiness and you die.

Chichi: Not going to risk it. You go girl. ^^;’

And even after that, it still wasn’t enough:

Atiyaah: papa! papa! Come look at this kimono!

Chichi: what is it… oh. oh my. the workmanship! the colors! the white layer underclothes! This is beautiful. I must get you o-

My daughter can't be snacking on other dolls! O_O

Chichi: O_o… My lovely musume, why is there a Dollfie pale and fainted behind you?

Atiyaah: aaa…. ahhhahahaha. Nothing to do with me. I have an alibi! I was modelling this wonderful kimono which you want to buy for me!! *hairtwitch*

Chichi: You’re not turning into… a gumiho are you?

Atiyaah: KYAAAH! No, no, no! Oniichaaan has been putting baka ideas into your head hasn’t he?! Stop thinking that way. Pay the tailor, hayaku hayaku!

And I’ll leave it at that, but I’ll keeping a closer eye on her head in future, yes. Anyways…

One of the few negatives about an otherwise winning event was the amount of K-On! and Madoka music that got played on the PA system when there wasn’t a rendition by a visitor of a song on the guitar or karaoke machine. There is something oddly awesome about a person who is clearly cosplaying… strumming a rock ballad on his guitar while he weeps. BTW, this corner is one of those unique things about *SCAPE – the shop next to it sponsored it out of its rented space to give performers a corner to do impromptu music jamming in.

Original budget: S$200

What I spent: $60 on a carefully fitted kimono for DDdy, $20 on these ‘budgeting envelopes’… and $50 on photography equipment (DAMN YE, FLEA MARKET TWINS!)

All in all, not the best day I’ve had, but very great.

Jah ne xD
