Gosick Episode 24 Review

My thoughts

This finale actually made me anxious as to whether our protagonists will ever see each other again. I would say Bones did a great job on building up the right atmosphere for this epic final episode. One of the good examples would be the moments when Kujou is fighting in the war as it on purposely hinting a bad ending with signs like showing Kujou's arm with the ring, the lower half of the body gone and all. So for once, Kujou is not annoying at all. Probably because he didn't yell "VICTORICAA VICTORICAA!!" all over the place as he usually would. Hell, I was actually hoping that he isn't crippled or dead and is glad that he survived in the end. Kudos to him, now I officially recognize him as a man. Well….partially.

Victorique, on the other hand, had certainly changed for the better in terms of attitude. She's no longer her usual proud self and now has the will to live because of Kujou. Their love for each other is indeed strong and beautiful. But a beautiful ending comes with a huge sacrifice as both Brians and Cordelia are now dead. Too bad because they are perhaps the most amazing characters of this series. But for Brian to fall off from the cliff like that is not like him at all as I am sure his reflex is more than that.

Even though Grevil isn't the one who save Victorique from the hands of Brian, i'm still glad that he let her go. Thus, Brian's life comes to an end on the ship and he claims that the feelings he had towards Cordelia is a son-mother kind of love. Nonetheless, this still explains why he hates Albert. I mean…who wouldn't hate a rapist stepfather? I'm glad that Albert is as good as dead though.

However, there were no explanations regarding Victorique's change in hair color. But I do believe that it is due to sudden shock caused by the death of Cordelia and Crazy Brian right in front of her. Heck, whatever the reason is, at least it saved her life from being caught by the cops. So if it wasn't for that, there would be no good ending and we'll probably get to see Kujou go nuts. Speaking of the ending, it was said that the novel is not finish yet. So this is probably an anime original ending. But at least we didn't get a crappy ending and everyone is happy. Not sure about Avril though. She's stuck.

For those who dropped this show for expecting it to be another Detective Conan, I'd advise you to continue where you left off. But if you haven't started it, I highly recommend it. Gosick isn't all about the mystery of the week. Sure, it has it's ups and downs. And I have to admit, most of it's mystery elements failed to impress me except for one or two of the them. However, this series managed to build an interesting main plot which successfully prevent those who gave up it's mystery elements from dropping this series – I am no exception too. But if you're a sucker for lolis, supernatural and history classes, you might as well turn your back on this series. All things considered, it had great character developments, above average graphic and awesome soundtrack. I sure love it's characters, especially Victorique and had no regrets on picking up this series. Thus, it was certainly a fun ride till the end. How about you?

Final Score : 8/10
